Reality television star and singer, Uriel Oputa, has made an emotional offer to adopt a baby girl discovered abandoned by the riverside in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
The baby, found weeping near the Niger Bridge by a local community leader, was reportedly left with a small bundle of clothes, a wrapper, and a few personal items.
The heartbreaking scene has since drawn widespread attention, with local authorities stepping in to provide immediate care.
According to eyewitness accounts, the community plans to alert the Local Government authorities while continuing to safeguard the child pending further investigations.
Uriel, a two-time Big Brother Naija housemate, was quick to respond after the video surfaced online.
In a heartfelt comment beneath a blog post that shared the distressing footage, she expressed a strong desire to adopt the child, pledging to provide a loving home.
“Please let me have her. She will never go hungry,” Uriel wrote, stirring a wave of admiration and emotional reactions across social media platforms.
The reality star’s compassionate gesture has resonated with many Nigerians, given her personal journey with fertility struggles.
Uriel had previously revealed her battle with amenorrhea, a condition that caused a prolonged absence of menstruation and left her facing uncertainty about motherhood.
Though her public appeal has drawn attention, it remains unclear whether she has taken official steps toward formal adoption through the appropriate channels.
Uriel’s move has ignited fresh conversations around child welfare and adoption in Nigeria, especially concerning abandoned infants.
As the story unfolds, many will be watching to see if this act of empathy transforms into a life-changing chapter for the abandoned child.
