President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to youth development with the launch of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), a major initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with essential skills for global competitiveness.

The launch took place on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the President, emphasized the need to invest in Nigeria’s youthful population to drive economic growth and innovation.

NiYA aims to train millions of youths over the next two years in digital literacy, technical skills, entrepreneurship, and the creative industries.

Tinubu noted that with Nigeria’s median age at 17 and the country projected to become the world’s third-largest population by 2050, this initiative is crucial in tackling unemployment and bridging the skills gap.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, described NiYA as a transformative platform to empower young Nigerians with marketable skills.

Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, added that the program targets over 60 million youths, positioning them for success in the global digital economy.

As part of the launch, six young Nigerians from different geo-political zones received N1 million each as start-up support.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s firm commitment to restoring national security and driving economic revival, assuring Nigerians that the country will overcome its present challenges.

In a personally signed Easter message released from France, where he is currently on a working visit, Tinubu described the season as one of hope, sacrifice, and renewal.

He called on citizens to draw strength from the message of Easter as the nation continues its journey toward peace and prosperity.

“The forces of evil will not triumph over our country,” the President declared, referencing recent attacks in Plateau and Benue States.

He disclosed that security agencies have been directed to respond swiftly and decisively to threats across the country, stressing that his government is determined to protect lives and property.

On the economy, Tinubu said there are early signs of recovery despite ongoing hardship.

He highlighted reforms aimed at restoring investor confidence, improving key sectors, and building a more inclusive economy.

The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has announced his decision to join the All Progressives Congress, stating that the move is aimed at securing better opportunities and development for residents of AMAC.

In a statement released on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu revealed that his defection is driven by the urgent need to ensure that AMAC citizens do not continue to miss out on federal appointments and job opportunities.

“It was important we took a position, and the position we took is for the good of our democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward,” Maikalangu declared.

He emphasized that his decision was made after deep reflection on the welfare of the people he was elected to serve.

“My people must know that for me to have taken that decision, I had looked at the general interests of AMAC people.

“I was not elected to lead the entire Nigeria, I was elected to lead AMAC residents.

“I looked at the interests of my people and I have seen that these interests were not protected in any other platform,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his new political home, Maikalangu asserted that the APC offers a more promising platform to fulfill his leadership vision and bring tangible progress to AMAC communities.

“I believe that with APC, I will be better positioned to achieve my goals for our people,” he concluded.

Maikalangu’s defection marks a significant political shift in the council and is expected to reshape the local political landscape as preparations build toward future electoral contests.
