The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has raised concerns over the recent vandalization of its power installations in Abakaliki, which has disrupted electricity supply to several areas.
In a statement on Sunday, EEDC attributed the outage to the vandalism of the Udemezue 11KV feeder in the early hours of January 5.
Affected areas include Oroko-onuoha, Udensi, Kpirikpiri, Ogbaga Road, New Layout, Udemezue, Low-Cost Housing Estate, and Hilltop Road.
Several businesses, including Amikaba, Siren Hotel, Man City Hotel, Muchels Hotel, De Pablo Hotel, and Unity FM, have also been impacted.
EEDC officials discovered the damage during a patrol following an abnormal outage at 2:40 a.m.
Vandals reportedly stole 16 meters of 150mm² x 3-core armored underground cable from the feeder’s source, leaving over 70 public and private transformers without power.
Apologizing for the inconvenience, EEDC assured customers that efforts are underway to replace the stolen equipment and restore supply promptly.
“We sincerely regret this development and appeal for patience and understanding.
“We remain committed to improving service delivery,” the company promised.
EEDC urged residents to report any suspicious activities or information that could help apprehend the culprits.
