In a sweeping crackdown on corruption, the Kano State Judicial Service Commission (KSJSC) has penalized eight judicial officers, including judges and court registrars, over bribery, document falsification, and unlawful prisoner releases.
The disciplinary actions followed the KSJSC’s 76th meeting on November 4, where cases of gross misconduct among judiciary staff were reviewed and met with decisive penalties.
The violations included issuing unauthorized bails, manipulating court records, and releasing convicts illegally.
Magistrates Nasir Ado and Yusuf Kawu faced the severest consequences, with Ado dismissed for falsifying records and conducting undocumented proceedings, while Kawu was indefinitely removed for unlawfully releasing a convict with a pending prison sentence.
In a notable case, finance registrar Salisu Adamu Nayola at Kiru Sharia Court was compulsorily retired for accepting bribes in inheritance cases, acting in collusion with another staff member, Alkali Abdulmuminu Nuhu, who also faced a two-year suspension.
Additionally, court messenger Shuaibu Bello was suspended without pay for extortion and mistreating a court user, while registrar Shamsu Abbas was retired for granting bail to a suspect without an official case.
KSJSC spokesperson Baba Jibo-Ibrahim confirmed that these disciplinary actions underscore the commission’s commitment to restoring
