Super Falcons forward, Florence Ijamilusi was on the scoresheet as Nigerian champions Edo Queens kicked off their campaign at the ongoing 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco with a 3-0 win over Ethiopian side CBE FC.
The encounter was miles away from being a close game as debutants Edo Queens dispatched three goals past CBE, who are also making their debut in the tournament, in their Group B opener at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday.
Emem Essien opened the scoring for the Nigerian side only five minutes into the game, inking her name into Edo Queens’ history book as the player to score the club’s first Champions League goal.
Nine minutes into the second half, Ijamilusi doubled the lead for the Queens. It was a continuation of Ijamilusi’s stellar performance in the last few weeks after scoring a hattrick for the Super Falcons in their 4-1 win over Algeria in a friendly game last month.
Osigwe sealed the victory for Edo Queens 10 minutes from the 90-minute mark, allowing the reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership champions to take an early command of Group B.
In the other opening matchday results, debutants FC Masar stunned two-time winners and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1-0, ASFAR thrashed Aigles de la Medina 3-0, while TP Mazembe defeated University of Western Cape Town 2-0.
Edo Queens will face FC Masar in their next group game on November 13.
