The gospel music community is mourning the loss of Jacob Yaw Mawulo Adjola, also known as Jake Young, a well-loved member of the non-denominational group Higher Praise Inc. Jake Young reportedly died by suicide on Sunday, just a day after leading a heartfelt performance with his group.
His tragic death has sparked widespread sorrow and discussions on social media, especially after a farewell note, allegedly written by Jake, surfaced on Facebook. In the note, Jake revealed his emotional and physical struggles, writing: “I chose to do it because I don’t deserve to live. I failed woefully, and nothing can solve any other mistake. I’ve been a dead man since 2022, and I have struggled my way through. As I gave my last worship in songs on earth to the Lord, I knew it was time to exit.”

He also expressed gratitude to his loved ones, friends, and church community, while disclosing personal health challenges. “I have had 3 surgeries in my testicles and kept it hidden from everyone,” the note said.
Following his passing, Jake Young’s sister, Susan Adjola, issued a statement on behalf of the family, expressing their deep pain and requesting privacy. “The sudden passing of our own Jacob Yaw Mawulo Adjola has left the Adjola family in great pain. We are grateful for the love and concern shown to us, but we ask that you allow the investigation to take its due course and respect our privacy during this tragic experience,” Susan said.
The family confirmed that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Jake’s death, including the authenticity of the note and the events leading to the tragedy. They urged the public to refrain from sharing sensitive information that might complicate the investigation and requested prayers and support during this difficult time.
Jake Young’s death has left a lasting impact on the gospel music community, with fans, fellow musicians, and friends paying tribute to his talent and legacy.
