Access Bank has announced a planned system upgrade, which will take place from the evening of Saturday, October 12, through to the early morning of Sunday, October 13. The bank has advised its customers to avoid conducting any banking transactions during this period to prevent potential service disruptions.

The upgrade is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. on October 12 and conclude by 6:30 a.m. on October 13. During this time, Access Bank will temporarily suspend its services to enhance its system’s efficiency and service delivery.

Despite the temporary shutdown, Access Bank confirmed that its USSD code (*901#) would remain operational, allowing customers to perform essential transactions such as funds transfer, bill payments, and airtime and data purchases.

In a statement shared via the bank’s official X handle, Access Bank emphasised the importance of this upgrade, noting that it is part of its ongoing efforts to optimise the functionality of its systems to better serve customers.

The bank acknowledged that the system upgrade might cause temporary disruptions to its app, ATMs, and Internet Banking services. However, it assured customers of a swift restoration of services once the upgrade is complete.

Access Bank highlighted that system upgrades are crucial for improving banking operations, enhancing customer experience, and gaining a competitive edge in the market. The introduction of new features and streamlined workflows as part of these upgrades is aimed at boosting productivity.

To minimise inconvenience, Access Bank has advised customers to adjust their transaction schedules to avoid the upgrade period. It recommended avoiding transactions within three hours before and after the upgrade’s start and end times. Customers can also consider using alternative banking services and fintech platforms during this period.

In cases where emergency transactions are necessary during the upgrade, the bank’s USSD code remains available for use.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has approved the participation of licensed Bureau De Change (BDC), operators in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), allowing each BDC to purchase up to $150,000 weekly.

The approval was contained in a circular dated February 10, 2026, signed by the Director of the Trade and Exchange Department, Dr. Musa Nakorji, and addressed to authorised dealer banks and the general public.

The CBN said the move is aimed at improving foreign exchange liquidity in the retail segment of the market and meeting the legitimate needs of end users, amid a widening gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates.

Under the new arrangement, licensed BDCs can access foreign exchange from the NFEM through any authorised dealer bank of their choice at the prevailing exchange rate.

The apex bank directed banks to carry out full Know-Your-Customer (KYC), and due diligence checks on BDC clients before selling foreign exchange to them.

It also imposed reporting and transparency requirements, mandating BDCs to submit returns electronically to the CBN.

In addition, the bank prohibited third-party transactions and limited cash settlement to a maximum of 25 per cent of each transaction.
