Singer R Kelly Appeals Sex Crime Convictions to US Supreme Court

In a bold move, disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly has taken his fight for freedom to the highest court in the United States.
On July 31, 2024, Kelly’s legal team filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, seeking to overturn his convictions on multiple sex crime charges.
The controversial artist, known for hits like, I Believe I Can Fly, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2022 after being found guilty of sexual exploitation of minors, forced labour, and racketeering. Kelly’s lawyers argue that his trial was marred by several legal errors and that these mistakes violated his constitutional rights.
Key points of the appeal:
Unfair jury selection: Kelly’s defence claims that the jury selection process was flawed, potentially leading to a biased panel that was predisposed against him.
Questionable evidence: The appeal challenges the admission of certain pieces of evidence that the defence believes should have been excluded from the trial. They argue that this evidence unduly influenced the jury’s decision.
Witness credibility: The legal team questions the reliability of the testimonies from key witnesses, suggesting that their accounts may not have been trustworthy.
R. Kelly’s lawyers are pushing for either a complete reversal of the convictions or a new trial, insisting that the original trial was far from fair. The Supreme Court’s decision on whether to hear the case could be a turning point in Kelly’s long-standing legal battles.
The U.S. Supreme Court only hears a small percentage of cases each year, so it’s uncertain whether they will take up Kelly’s appeal. However, if they do, it could potentially lead to a new trial or even a release from his current sentence. For now, the world waits to see if the once-celebrated artist will get another chance to clear his name.

As the drama unfolds, many are left wondering whether justice will prevail or if this is just another chapter in the saga of a fallen star.

Media personality Daddy Freeze has defended his past friendship with convicted internet fraudster Hushpuppi, revealing that he stood by him when others turned their backs.

In a video shared by Tunde Ednut, Daddy Freeze disclosed that despite widespread criticism of Hushpuppi, he refuses to condemn him because of the support he received during a difficult period.

“Hushpuppi has never given me money before, not even $1. But he gave me friendship when nobody wanted to be my friend because they believed I was the devil,” he said.

Recalling their first meeting, he shared, “The first time I met Hushpuppi was when I was invited to Dubai along with some influencers. At the time, I had already started the #FreeTheSheeple movement.

“The influencers didn’t like me, the church I attended for 10 years rejected me, and everyone abandoned me. Then Hushpuppi sent me a DM saying, ‘Where are you? Come over.’”

Daddy Freeze acknowledged that he may have suspected Hushpuppi’s wealth was not legitimate but emphasized that it didn’t change the kindness he received.

“Why won’t I be friends with someone who was my friend? How am I going to be angry with him?

“I might have guessed that his money was not legit, but like Davido said in one of his songs, ‘Dey for who dey for you.’”

His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending his stance on loyalty while others criticized his association with Hushpuppi.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued 23 children from a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of an orphanage in Kubwa, Abuja.

The operation, carried out on March 20, 2025, followed credible intelligence on suspicious activities at Mother Deborah Orphanage.

Police operatives from the Kubwa Division swiftly stormed the location and arrested the orphanage owner, Ijeoma Andy, along with another suspect.

According to FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the raid led to the rescue of a three-year-old child suspected to have been stolen from Kaduna State, alongside 22 other children aged between two and 14 years.

Investigations revealed that Andy could not provide a reasonable explanation of how the children ended up in her facility, raising strong suspicions of child trafficking.

The rescued children are now in protective custody receiving care, while efforts continue to track down other accomplices.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities via emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, and 07057337653.
