The Lagos State Police Command has successfully uncovered a clandestine factory producing counterfeit sachet water in the Oluwole Market area of Lagos.
The fake products were being manufactured under a brand name registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), deceiving unsuspecting consumers.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the breakthrough on his official X handle, revealing that the suspect behind the operation has been apprehended and is currently in custody.
Hundeyin commended the people of Lagos for providing the police with the information leading to the operation and for safeguarding the health of Lagosians.
He posted, “Thank you, Lagosians, for giving us information and safeguarding the health of others.
“These suspects fraudulently used the brand name and NAFDAC number of another sachet water producing company to produce their sachet water inside Oluwole Market, Apapa.”
Meanwhile, in a video attached to the post, a suspected staff of the water factory with policemen displaying the manufactured sachets of water stored in the facility and also in a refrigerator within the facility.
He also proceeded to operate the machine used for the illegal manufacturing of the sachet water.
Hundeyin, however, remarked that the sachet water factory was raided on July 9, and a suspect was arrested in the process.
The police image maker added that the suspect is in police custody and helping with investigations.
He added that the owner of the facility is at large while efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
