The Lagos State Police Command has made significant arrests, including a newly hired driver who stole his employer’s car on his first day to testify in church, and dismissed soldiers involved in a robbery gang donning military gear.
In a startling revelation, 36-year-old Amos Daniel confessed to stealing his employer’s Lexus on the same day he was hired as a driver, intending to use it for Uber to pay off debts. He brazenly took the car to church a week later, proclaiming it as God’s blessing.
Meanwhile, two dismissed soldiers, Akeem Suleiman and Abdulau Mohammed, alongside civilian accomplices, were apprehended for their role in a gang that conducted armed vehicle snatchings in Lagos, often wearing military attire to deceive victims.
Recovered from the dismissed soldiers were military headgear, uniforms, and identity cards, highlighting their deceptive tactics during operations.
Additionally, the police paraded Thankgod Kesh-David, a 25-year-old posing as a roadside mechanic who fraudulently repaired vehicles only to abscond with them.
Addressing the media at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, SP Benjamin Hudenyin emphasized the importance of due diligence in hiring practices, urging employers to conduct comprehensive background checks through authorized channels like the Central Criminal Registry at the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
“These arrests underscore the need for vigilance in employment practices,” Hudenyin stated. “The suspects will face prosecution for their crimes, ensuring justice is served.”
The command’s tactical team based in Surulere played a pivotal role in apprehending the robbery gang, preventing further criminal activities in Lagos, particularly in the Ajah area where the gang operated with a local firearm.
