The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command operatives have identified some kidnapper’s camps at Gidan Dogo and Kweti forests in Kaduna State, bordering Abuja.
In a statement made available on Sunday by SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the operation was confirmed.
Adeh said the operation was carried out on Friday following credible intelligence on the activities of the criminal elements.
According to her, the suspects that were arrested during the operation are – Yahaya Abubakar of Mpape, Mohammed Mohamed of Zuba, an ex-convict, Umar Aliyu and Nura Abdullahi, also an ex-convict.
In the statement, she said that the suspects have freely confessed to being members of a notorious bandit syndicate with the name ‘Mai One Million’, responsible for a series of kidnapping incidents in the territory.
In her words: “The coordinated operation, occasioned a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, forcing them to scamper to safety and victims rescued. The illegally erected structures by the kidnappers in all the patrolled camps, were all decimated.
She also said: “While the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families and loved ones, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh lauded the effort of the security operatives in the fight against criminality in the Nation’s Capital”.
