Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo recently marked his son Clinton Mbaise’s debut in the filmmaking industry with a nod to African traditions. Kanayo chose to adhere to customary practices by accepting his son’s inaugural earnings from his on-set endeavors and imparting his paternal blessings upon him.
Earlier, the actor had introduced Clinton to the team at Simpliciter Associates Productions, his production company, during a movie shoot. He announced Clinton’s role as an assistant production manager and his personal assistant.
In a video shared on Kanayo’s Instagram account, he not only requested his son’s first salary as a Nollywood production manager assistant but also encouraged others to seek blessings from their fathers with their initial earnings, rather than seeking them from pastors.
Kanayo emphasized the variability in the amount a parent may choose to receive from their child’s earnings, underscoring that only a father can bestow such blessings.
He expressed, “I want to uphold a tradition passed down by our ancestors, which has propelled many individuals to success—’Father’s blessing.’
“Clinton, my son, has just completed his stint in production management with us and has earned his first salary, amounting to N50,000 for his work on a movie.
“As a symbolic gesture, Clinton, from your earnings, give me N500.
“When a young man receives his first salary, he should present it to his father, saying, ‘Father, my salary is N50,000.’ The father may choose to accept the entire sum or a portion thereof, followed by bestowing his blessings upon his child.
“The purpose of this tradition is for the father to impart financial wisdom and guidance to his son.
“For those who habitually offer their salaries to pastors, it’s futile and contrary to our cultural norms.”
