Chelsea have not been higher than ninth at any stage and are at risk of missing out on European qualification for a second successive season.

Spurs are 12 points better off but they are running out of time to challenge Aston Villa for fourth place.

The Blues travelled to Villa Park without Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Enzo Fernandez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Reece James, Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku, Levi Colwill, Malo Gusto, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chillwell and Robert Sanchez.

Timo Werner (hamstring) came off in the first half of Tottenham’s 3-2 loss at home to Arsenal and faces a spell on the sidelines.
