The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, is in mourning following the sad demise of popular producer Ikechukwu Nnandi, affectionately known as Andy Best. Seun Oloketuyi, convener of the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), confirmed the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Andy Best had been battling an undisclosed prolonged illness and succumbed to it at a private clinic in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. His remains have been laid to rest at the Aladinma Mortuary in Owerri.
Oloketuyi shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Andy Best Top Nollywood producer and Marketer is dead. He died in an Owerri hospital today.”
Andy Best was renowned for his contributions to Nollywood, having produced notable films like “My Sweet Sister,” “Pretty Angels,” “Queen of My Heart,” and “Rain Makers,” among many others. Hailing from Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, he began his filmmaking journey in the 1980s, with one of his most successful works being “Ikuku,” released in 1995 and starring Pete Edochie. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Andy Best Production.
The news of Andy Best’s passing has sent shockwaves through his fans and the Nigerian entertainment industry as a whole. Tributes poured in on social media platforms, with one user reminiscing, “Great Andy Best production .. OG,” while another expressed sheer disbelief, “Jesus Christ Ahhhhhhhhh.” Another user lamented, “We lost another Icon in the industry.”
Andy Best’s demise comes shortly after the loss of another Nollywood luminary, Mr. Ibu, who passed away due to cardiac arrest. The actor had been grappling with various health issues and was under medical care for several months. Tragically, Mr. Ibu lost his life at Evercare Hospital in Lagos on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the age of 62, leaving behind a void in the hearts of his colleagues and fans.
