As schools reopened for the second term of the 2023/2024 academic session, the Lagos State government has called on teachers, non-teaching staff, and students to prioritize outstanding performance in their respective roles throughout the year 2024. Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, conveyed this message during his monitoring visit to some schools in the state on Monday.
In a statement released by Mr. Ganiu Lawal, the head of the public affairs unit of the ministry, Commissioner Alli-Balogun emphasized the government’s commitment to utilizing limited resources effectively to ensure the safety and enhanced performance of both students and school staff in the new year.
The commissioner reiterated the determination of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to expand the school feeding program in public primary schools. This initiative aims to boost students’ welfare, improve attendance, and address the challenge of out-of-school children in the state.
Additionally, Commissioner Alli-Balogun announced the recruitment of new teachers across various subjects and classes, anticipating that this move would contribute to the overall improvement of learning outcomes for students.
Reflecting on the achievements of students and teachers in the previous year, Commissioner Alli-Balogun expressed pride in the accomplishments, either at an individual level or as representatives of their schools in various events. He conveyed the state government’s commitment to building on these successes in the current year.
While commending the support and cooperation received from stakeholders in the education sector, Commissioner Alli-Balogun urged for continued collaboration to achieve even greater strides in education throughout the year.
However, he issued a stern caution to students, advising them to steer clear of drugs, cultism, gangsterism, and examination malpractices. Instead, Commissioner Alli-Balogun encouraged students to channel their energy towards co-curricular activities and other lawful engagements that would contribute positively to their personal development and academic pursuits.
