Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, has included Ahmed Musa and William Troost Ekong in his 25-player list for next month’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Musa has not played for the Super Eagles since the game against Guinea-Bissau in March 2023, while Ekong’s last match was against Portugal in November 2022. However, both players will feature for the team at the 34th AFCON scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast.
Peseiro’s final AFCON squad comprises three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and eight forwards.
Earlier this month, the Portuguese coach released a 40-player provisional squad for the tournament.
Ojo Olorunleke of Enyimba is the only home-based player in the team, as Amas Obasogie from Bendel Insurance and Christian Nwoke from Sporting Lagos failed to make the cut.
Victor Osimhen, the newly crowned African footballer of the year, was included alongside the red-hot Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze.
Wilfred Ndidi also made the list, joining Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, and Joe Aribo.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria will take on Equatorial Guinea in their opening game before facing Ivory Coast and rounding off the group stage with the Guinea-Bissau tie.
