Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City made a spectacular comeback to defeat Millwall 3-2, retaining their top spot in the Championship.
The turning point came as Jannik Vestergaard’s commanding header leveled the scores just three minutes into the second half. Patson Daka, showcasing his prowess, continued his scoring streak by netting in the 52nd minute. Leicester’s third goal materialized through Ricardo Pereira, whose shot, deflected off teammate Wilfred Ndidi, caught Millwall goalkeeper Matija Sarkic off guard.
Despite Millwall’s late efforts, substitute Kevin Nisbet managed to secure a second goal in stoppage time, injecting suspense into the final moments of the game. Leicester, having temporarily relinquished the top spot to Ipswich, now leads by a slender one-point margin.
Notably absent were key players Jamie Vardy, nursing a knee injury, and Kelechi Iheanacho, sidelined due to illness. This paved the way for Daka, who seized the opportunity with a stellar performance, building on his previous goal against Plymouth.
Millwall, enduring a challenging run with only one win in their last 11 games, initially took the lead through Murray Wallace’s cross, deftly headed into the top corner by Bradshaw. Despite Leicester’s strong appeal for a penalty in the first half, following Abdul Fatawu’s tumble in the box, referee Keith Stroud remained unmoved, and Conor Coady received a booking for his protests.
Leicester’s resurgence commenced in the second half, with Vestergaard’s header setting the stage for a spirited comeback. Daka’s clinical finish, coupled with Pereira’s deflected strike, underscored Leicester’s dominance as they assumed control by the hour mark. Stephy Mavididi came close to extending the lead, narrowly missing the mark with a header into the side-netting.
