Afrobeat star Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has emerged as the most-searched artist on Google in Nigeria for 2023. Google’s list of the “10 Most Searched Topics and Persons in Nigeria” revealed that Asake’s song “Lonely at the Top” also claimed the top spot for the most searched songs by Nigerians.
Following closely in the most-searched artistes category were Khalid and Shallipopi at the second and third positions. The list also featured other notable artists such as Seyi Vibez, Kizz Daniel, Portable, Spyro, Boy Spice, Odumodublvck, and Ayra Starr.
In the “Top 10 Most Searched Songs” ranking, Omah Lay’s hit “Reason” secured the second spot, while Kizz Daniel’s “My G” and Spyro’s “Who is your guy” claimed the third and fourth positions, respectively. Other songs making the list included “Terminator” by King Promise, “Sability” by Ayra Starr, “Asiwaju” by Ruga, “Carry me go” by Khalid ft Boy Spyce, “Ojapiano” by KCee, and “Rich till I die” by Kizz Daniel.
Ahmed Ololade, professionally known as Asake, is a rising Afrobeat artist who gained recognition with his debut album, “Mr Money with the Vibe,” released in September 2022. The album broke records for the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music and debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the highest-charting Nigerian debut album in Billboard history.
Asake’s sophomore album, “Work of Art,” released in June 2023, also debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200. The artist received a Best New International Act nomination at the 2023 BET Awards and was listed as Number 5 on Rolling Stone Music’s Future 25 in the same year.
Having won the Breakout Artist of the Year at the 2022 All Africa Music Awards and nominated for the Best African Music Act at the 2022 MOBO Awards, Asake continued his success by clinching the Next Rated category at the 2023 Headies Award on Sept. 4, earning him a brand new car.
In November, Asake received his first Grammy Awards nomination for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards scheduled to take place in February 2024, nominated for his hit song “Amapiano” featuring Olamide.
