A storm of controversy has erupted in the Nigerian online sphere as Reno Omokri, a prominent activist and former presidential spokesperson, faces a barrage of criticism following a recent interview with the controversial artist, Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, in which he denied any involvement in the death of musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Since Mohbad’s death, many Nigerians have accused Marley of culpability in the former’s death due to his earlier choice to leave the latter’s record company, Marlian Records, in 2022.
Naira Marley was featured in the interview, which sparked heated controversy on social media sites. During the conversation, Naira Marley shared his open thoughts about his relationship with Mohbad, eliciting diverse emotions from Nigerians.
Reno Omokri’s role in conducting the interview has received significant scrutiny and controversy. Omokri, known for his large following and vociferous advocacy on a variety of issues, found himself in the center of intense scrutiny from Nigerians who questioned the logic of giving Naira Marley a platform in light of his controversial record.
Many Nigerians took to social media to express their dismay and disappointment in Omokri’s decision to interview the controversial singer, highlighting concerns about the message this collaboration sends to the public. Critics argue that it risks normalizing content and behavior they deem harmful.
