Staff unions at Lagos State University (LASU) have declared an indefinite strike, disrupting all academic and administrative activities across the institution and its affiliate campuses.

In a letter dated July 31, 2025, and addressed to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Joint Action Committee—which includes ASUU, SSANU, NASU, and NAAT—ordered all staff to vacate duty posts effective immediately.

The strike affects the Lagos State University College of Medicine in Ikeja and the LASU Epe campus. The timing is especially disruptive, as students were scheduled to begin second-semester exams on Monday.

The letter, signed by union leaders including ASUU-LASU Chairman Prof. Ibrahim A. Bakare and SSANU-LASU Chairman Oluwaseyi Lawal, stated that the strike will continue until all outstanding demands are met.

The unions thanked staff for their support and assured management of their continued goodwill, even as they maintained that only concrete action from authorities would end the industrial action.

The programme is designed to extend beyond the contest itself, exposing the finalists to new learning opportunities, professional connections and experiences in the nation’s capital.
