Al Nassr forward, Sadio Mane, has spoken highly of his former Liverpool teammate, Georginio Wijnaldum, describing the Dutch midfielder as a player with not only immense talent but also a “good heart.”
Mane made these remarks during an interview with Liverpool Echo, where he emphasized the deep bond he shares with Wijnaldum, which has grown beyond their time on the pitch.
The Senegalese international revealed that their friendship transcended football, as they both arrived at Liverpool around the same time and developed a natural connection. Mane explained that Wijnaldum’s approachable personality and ability to bond with his teammates made him beloved by everyone at the club.
“Gini is one of my very good friends. And with Gini, it’s more than football because our relationship came naturally. When I was in Liverpool, we arrived at the same time, and he is the type of person that, once he’s part of the team, he becomes friends with everybody. Everybody likes him,” Mane shared.
Mane also humorously recounted how Wijnaldum would frequently visit his house, often unannounced, further highlighting the closeness of their relationship. “He was always in my house. Sometimes he’d call me and say, ‘I’m coming over,’ and I’d jokingly tell him, ‘No, not yet. Get out of here!’”
The duo enjoyed significant success together at Liverpool, winning the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles during their time at the club.
