Chief Bisi Akande, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, has instructed that his allowances be utilized to benefit deserving undergraduate science students.
In a memo dated August 21, 2024, Akande directed the University’s Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Ganiyu Oke Saliu, to use his allowances for students studying Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The allowances will be converted into an annual scholarship or award to cover school fees, accommodation, and other expenses.
To ensure strict compliance, Akande tasked the Student Affairs Office with coordinating and selecting eligible science students.
Additionally, Akande’s incorporated Adebisi Akande Foundation has set aside funds to support the project in case the selected students face financial difficulties.
This gesture demonstrates Akande’s commitment to supporting education and encouraging students to pursue science-related fields.
The university community has welcomed this initiative, which aims to alleviate financial burdens and promote academic excellence among science students.
