In a renewed wave of terror, the Bwari Area Council faced a brutal onslaught in the early hours of yesterday, resulting in the kidnapping of over four individuals and the death of one woman in the Guto area. The attack began around 12:30 AM and spanned across the fringes of the Guto and Piyawe communities, eventually reaching the Tudun-Fulani and Sabon Gari areas within the Bwari Area Council’s headquarters.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, numbering over 30, invaded the area in two separate groups. The assailants surrounded the communities, firing sporadically as they forced their way into residents’ homes. The invasion reportedly began through the swamps of Piyawe, where the terrorists made their way to Guto and Piyawe, resulting in the kidnapping of a man and the tragic killing of a woman in her mid-40s, identified only as Madam Alice. Madam Alice was reportedly visiting her sick mother, who lives with her brother in Bwari, when she was killed.
Residents recounted the harrowing events, stating that the attackers moved swiftly and with precision. In Guto, two individuals were abducted from their homes, while another person was kidnapped from Tudun-Fulani, located less than a kilometer from the council Secretariat.
The atmosphere in the affected communities remains tense, with residents fearful of further attacks. Many have called for increased security measures and a more robust response from local authorities to prevent future incidents.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, described the chaos and fear that gripped the communities during the attack. “We were woken up by the sounds of gunfire. It was terrifying. They came in large numbers and seemed to know exactly where to go. We are living in constant fear.”
In response to the attack, local authorities have vowed to enhance security in the area and have urged residents to remain vigilant. Security forces have been deployed to patrol the affected communities and surrounding areas to prevent further incidents.
The tragic events in Bwari highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region. As residents mourn the loss of Madam Alice and grapple with the kidnappings of their loved ones, there is an urgent call for comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
Local leaders have also called for community solidarity and cooperation with security forces. “We must stand together and support each other during these trying times. It is only through unity and cooperation that we can overcome these challenges,” said a community leader.
