Just a week after a dramatic escape from the police, controversial Nigerian singer Portable has announced his new role as a police ambassador. On May 21, 2024, the singer shared photos on Instagram of himself alongside his father and high-ranking police officers at the Lagos Police headquarters.
In his post, Portable declared, “Zazuu federal government liability Ọmọ ijoba Police Ambassador. I do music for a living… Stars don’t beg to shine. Akoi Grace Wey No Dey disgrace.” He emphasized that the police are friends to the community, stating, “I no fit run from God that’s all my believing. God is over everything, after God na government. Police are our friends. I believe in God, my phone, and sub. Any disappointment is a blessing. ZEHNATION many many inspiration.”
This surprising turn of events follows his arrest on May 14, 2024, for failing to pay a ₦14 million debt after purchasing a ₦27 million Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. According to reports, the car dealer had made several attempts to contact Portable, but to no avail.
Videos that circulated online captured the moment police officers approached Portable, reading his arrest warrant. In a swift move, Portable jumped over a gate and ran away. However, he was soon apprehended, with footage showing multiple officers dragging him into a patrol van.
After securing bail, Portable posted on Instagram on May 15, 2024, with an image that read, “God is bigger than everything. Amen if you believe so.” He added in his caption, “God Over Everything,” and released a song titled “Spiderman,” which detailed his arrest experience.
Portable’s latest declaration as a police ambassador has sparked mixed reactions among fans and the public. While some see it as a strategic move to mend relations with law enforcement, others remain skeptical of his intentions given his recent legal troubles.
The Lagos Police have yet to issue an official statement regarding Portable’s new role. Meanwhile, the singer continues to leverage his controversial persona, using his social media presence to maintain public interest and navigate his turbulent career.
