Nigerian musician and activist, Charly Boy, has offered a heartfelt apology to fellow Nigerians, acknowledging the role of his generation’s inactivity in shaping the current state of the nation. Speaking candidly during an appearance on The Discourse With Ken, a segment on Classic FM radio station, Charly Boy expressed deep frustration and assumed responsibility for the country’s predicament.
“I am the president of all frustrated Nigerians, na me. My frustration level is very high because I’ve had my own portion of suffering. I’m sure the reason my vitality is affected is because of the situation of this country,” he lamented.
Charly Boy urged Nigerians not to solely blame political leaders, whom he dubbed as ‘ruiners of Nigeria’, emphasizing the need for collective accountability.
“In this Nigeria, our ‘ruiners of Nigeria’—I don’t want to call them leaders—contribute to our current problems, but our people don’t want to hear the truth. The truth is, it is high time we stopped blaming these people. If we had taken the right kind of action, this wouldn’t have happened,” he asserted.
Expressing remorse for the past failures of his generation, Charly Boy acknowledged that the seeds of Nigeria’s present challenges were sown long ago, with little done to address them.
“I want to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of people in my generation because the majority of us were missing in action. We had seen the issues coming right from the military regime, no be today. And most of us, at the time when we should have taken action, we didn’t. Now, it appears criminals have taken over our space, and getting them out is a problem,” he admitted.
Furthermore, Charly Boy called for concerted efforts to address Nigeria’s issues, stressing the importance of proactive engagement and accountability among citizens.
