Ajayi Crowther Varsity Students Arraigned for Beating Fellow Student to Death

In connection with the murder of Alex Timileyin, a student who was beaten to death by his colleagues for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, twenty-five undergraduate students of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

The students, aged between 18 and 34, have been remanded in prison until July 8 pending trial.

An activist identified as ‘Lord Of Warri’ from Itsekiri in the Warri Kingdom, Delta State made the development known on X.com.

Reports indicate that Timileyin was beaten to death inside a hostel known as Shepherd Inn on the school premises by a group of other students for allegedly stealing a mobile phone. He was reportedly beaten from 6 pm on Friday to about 10 am on Saturday.

Earlier, the activist, who is a relative of the deceased, had petitioned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, urging the governor to ensure that those behind the murder were brought to justice.

‘Lord Of Warri’ provided an update on his X handle on Wednesday, stating: “Today June 5, 25 students were arraigned in court in connection with the tragic murder of Prince Alex Timileyin, a son of the Warri Kingdom and a student at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. The court has remanded them in prison until July 8, pending trial. We appreciate the efforts of the Oyo State Government and the Oyo State Police Command in pursuing justice and ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable. We await the trial and expect that justice will be served in its entirety.”

Police Advise Nigerians to Stay Calm, Avoid Resistance During Criminal Attacks

The Nigeria Police Force has advised Nigerians to remain calm and avoid resisting criminals during attacks, urging citizens to prioritise their safety over material possessions.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, gave the advice on Tuesday during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, noting that calmness in dangerous situations could save lives.
“In the unfortunate event that you find yourself among criminals, do not struggle or fight. Stay calm and save your life first,” Hundeyin said, adding that the police would pursue and arrest the perpetrators.
He also disclosed that the police have recorded successes against criminal syndicates, including the arrest of suspects linked to “One-Chance” gangs in Abuja and the murder of a lawyer in the Federal Capital Territory, with the victim’s phone recovered.
Hundeyin reassured Nigerians of the force’s commitment to tackling crime and improving public safety nationwide.

Rivers Police Arrest Suspect Over Killing of 25-Year-Old Woman After ₦210,000 Ransom

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Goodnews Iberi, in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a 25-year-old woman, Rita Eleonu, after her family paid a ₦210,000 ransom.
Iberi, an indigene of Rumuakunde community in Emohua Local Government Area, was arrested following investigations into the victim’s disappearance. Eleonu was from Rumuekini community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect and his accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly lured the victim to a forest along the Emohua axis of the East–West Road.
Police said the suspects demanded and received ransom from the family but had already killed the woman before contacting them. Iberi was arrested at his hideout on January 8, 2026, and reportedly confessed during interrogation, leading officers to the location where the victim’s remains were recovered.
SP Iringe-Koko said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, assuring that all those involved would be brought to justice.

EFCC Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede has publicly challenged Nigerians to provide evidence if he has ever accepted a bribe, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and accountability.

Speaking at an event in Abuja, Olukoyede invited citizens, civil society groups, and the media to “expose me if I’ve ever received bribe from you,” insisting no unlawful payments have been made to him during his tenure.

He also addressed ongoing investigations, including the high-profile case involving former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, clarifying that he inherited the matter and that the commission is acting without personal or political bias.

Olukoyede’s remarks come amid heightened public scrutiny of corruption and anti-graft agencies in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed that no corrupt practice will be tolerated within the EFCC, citing past dismissals and prosecutions of staff for misconduct.
