Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has shown his commitment to the development of sports and agriculture by rewarding the winners and runners-up of the 2023 Plateau Football Association Governor’s Cup with fertiliser and cash gifts.

The final match, held between Mangu and Jos North LGAs at the Mangu Mini Stadium in Mangu, saw Mangu emerge victorious with a 1-0 win over their opponents.

Governor Mutfwang’s decision to reward the winners with fertiliser is aimed at encouraging the players to invest in agriculture while pursuing their football careers. Each player of the winning team will receive 10 bags of fertiliser, while those from the runner-up team will receive five bags each. Additionally, players from the third-place team will receive three bags of fertiliser each.

Despite the heavy rain that soaked the pitch during the final match, Governor Mutfwang viewed it as a blessing rather than a misfortune, emphasizing the importance of embracing such conditions and making the most out of them.

In the third-place playoff, Shendam local government emerged victorious over Wase Rock, winning 5-3 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.

The governor’s gesture underscores his dedication to promoting sports development and agriculture as key sectors for the growth and prosperity of Plateau State.

Mend Fence with Tinubu, Oke Urges Aregbesola

By Abaire Bisola

Oluwole Oke, the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, has advised former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to reconcile with President Bola Tinubu.

In a social media post on Sunday, Oke urged Aregbesola to set aside differences and seek peace with his former political ally.

Oke’s call comes amid heightened political tensions in Osun, particularly following the decision of Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, to break away from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The split is linked to longstanding disagreements with the mainstream APC, fueled by Aregbesola’s feud with his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, and reports of a fallout with Tinubu.

“If I were in his shoes, I would go and beg, prostrate, and make peace with my principal, PBAT [President Bola Ahmed Tinubu],” Oke stated, emphasizing that reconciliation is more beneficial than prolonged conflicts.

Acknowledging Aregbesola’s significant political influence, Oke also suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could take advantage of the APC’s internal discord.

He described Aregbesola as a political “bride” in Osun and urged the PDP to act decisively if they hope to win him over.

Despite the ongoing rift, Oke predicted that Aregbesola will remain a key figure in Osun politics, regardless of his political alignment.

Former APC National Vice Chairman, North West, Salihu Lukman, has urged politicians, especially those in the opposition, to prioritize strengthening democracy over personal ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement titled “Early Outline of the Permutations for 2027,” Lukman cautioned against the politics of power shift, warning that it often serves as a tool for individual political gains rather than genuine democratic progress.

He stressed that Nigeria’s democracy needs leadership driven by selflessness and political competition rather than imposition.

According to him, a focus on power struggles weakens governance, erodes accountability, and perpetuates political dictatorship.

Lukman called on Nigerians to reject self-serving politicians and advocate for a system that fosters true democracy, where leadership emerges through merit and competition, not political maneuvering.
