Mauricio Pochettino expressed deep concern over Chelsea’s underwhelming performance, acknowledging that the team’s situation is “not good enough” following a damaging 4-2 defeat at home against Wolves.
Despite Cole Palmer initially giving the Blues the lead at Stamford Bridge, a Matheus Cunha hat-trick and an unfortunate Axel Disasi own goal intensified the pressure on Pochettino.
The former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager did not shy away from taking responsibility, admitting both his players and his managerial performance fell short of the expected standard.
“I think we are all not good enough. At the moment, this is the reality. Myself, also. What we are showing today is we are not good enough,” Pochettino conceded after the game.
Even more strikingly, Pochettino acknowledged that the current Chelsea side does not live up to the standards set by previous teams.
“We didn’t manage the situation properly. No one can be safe, no? I don’t want to come here and say I’m the best. At the moment, we are not matching the history of the club, that is true. We need to accept and be critical. We will not give up.”
Chelsea’s struggles were evident as they were booed off by their own fans at full-time, finding themselves in the bottom half of the table after another disappointing loss. Pochettino’s team currently shares the same points as they did at this stage last season under Graham Potter, who was eventually sacked six games later.
Facing an uphill battle, Pochettino emphasized the need for a turnaround in form to stay in contention for European competition next season.
