Minister of Works, David Umahi, has denied deploying police officers against Mrs Tracy Ohiri over an alleged campaign debt, saying law enforcement acted on a petition filed by his lawyer.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, Umahi said the Nigeria Police Force acted within its constitutional mandate to investigate complaints.
He noted that Ohiri was arrested based on the petition and that he was also invited to make a statement in line with due process.
The minister was reacting to a viral video shared by activist Omoyele Sowore, who confronted him over Ohiri’s claims of assault and unpaid campaign materials.
Umahi described the allegations as inconsistent and said they had circulated on social media since last year, attracting mixed reactions.
He accused Sowore of staging a spectacle for attention and said he declined to engage in public theatrics.
The controversy has sparked debate online, while police investigations are ongoing.
