Ex-BPE Staff Drag DG Gbeleyi to Court Over Alleged Disobedience of N112m Pension Judgment

Three former staff of the Bureau of Public Enterprises have initiated committal proceedings against its Director-General, Ayodeji Gbeleyi, over alleged refusal to comply with a National Industrial Court judgment awarding them N112 million in pension and gratuity claims.
The action followed a Form 48 dated February 23, 2026, filed by their counsel, Akpama Ekwe, on behalf of Mohammed S. Liadi, Chief U. Okpa-Obaji and A.O. Sadiq.
The notice, titled “Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Orders of Court,” warned the DG that failure to obey the judgment of Justice O.Y. Anuwe of the National Industrial Court, Abuja, could amount to contempt of court and attract committal to prison.
In the 2021 judgment, the court held that the claimants were entitled to pension and gratuity under Section 18(1) of the Public Enterprises (Privatisation and Commercialisation) Act 2004, and ordered the BPE to compute and pay their entitlements within 30 days.
The ex-staff are seeking enforcement of the judgment, insisting their benefits remain unpaid more than 20 years after leaving service.
