Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed concern over low voter turnout in the ongoing Area Council elections.
During a visit to polling units, including one in Karshi, the minister met only a few electoral officials and no voters. An ad-hoc official said about 10 percent of registered voters had turned out as of the time of the visit.
Wike expressed hope that turnout would improve before counting began.
Meanwhile, Dr. Moses Paul, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), blamed the low turnout on the restriction of movement, describing the situation as unusual and confusing for voters.
