Just 18 of 1,464 registered voters had cast their ballots by 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Polling Units 001 and 009 in Galadima, Gwarimpa, during the ongoing FCT area council elections.
Polling Unit 001 has 750 registered voters, and Unit 009 has 714, but correspondents observed only a few voters at both centres. Voting began around 9:00 a.m., with security personnel on site to maintain order.
An Abuja resident, Benson Idoko, attributed the low turnout to voter disillusionment. “Ordinarily, there should be a huge turnout because it is a local election,” he said.
While Galadima saw low participation, other areas like Garki reported relatively higher voter turnout.
