Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are voting in the Area Council elections across AMAC, Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari and Abaji.
The exercise, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will elect chairmen and councillors in the six councils.
INEC had earlier announced that over 1.5 million voters collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while more than two million voters are expected to participate.
Security personnel, including officers of the Nigeria Police Force, were deployed across the territory, with movement restricted for 12 hours to ensure order.
Situation reports show early arrival of officials and materials in Bwari and AMAC, while accreditation and voting commenced at Polling Unit 087, Garki Ward, at 8:40 a.m. Voting was also ongoing at PU 005, Area 2, City Centre, under tight security.
The early deployment of materials and personnel signalled the formal commencement of the 2026 council polls.
