Mawyeya community in Gui Ward is facing serious challenges as residents continue to grapple with persistent power outages and high unemployment among young people.

Speaking to Abuja City Journal Reporter, the community’s youth leader, Gata Philip, lamented the lack of a functional electricity transformer in the area.

According to him, the only available power supply comes from Gosa Primary School, which is insufficient to meet the needs of the growing community.

Residents struggle to charge their phones, watch television, access information, or carry out basic daily activities due to the unreliable power supply.

Philip also highlighted the issue of youth unemployment, noting that many graduates in Mawyeya remain without jobs despite their qualifications.

He expressed concern that the absence of meaningful government presence has left young people without opportunities to contribute to the community’s development.

“The youths are ready to play their part, but without support, we are left stranded,” Philip said, urging authorities to intervene urgently by installing a proper transformer and creating employment opportunities for the young people.

He emphasized that addressing these challenges would not only improve living conditions but also empower the youth to participate actively in the socio-economic growth of Mawyeya community.
