The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has deployed officers across the territory ahead of the February 21, 2026 Area Council elections.

The command also announced a restriction of movement from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, with exemptions for essential service providers and election officials.

In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the deployment was carried out under a comprehensive operational order in collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Adeh said the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, directed officers to maintain professionalism and ensure adequate security at polling units and collation centres to guarantee a peaceful, free and fair election.

She urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and comply with security guidelines, assuring voters of a safe environment to exercise their civic responsibilities.

INEC has cleared candidates from 17 political parties for the polls, which will cover 68 elective positions, six area council chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions across the FCT’s six area councils. About 1.68 million registered voters are eligible to participate.
