The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a public notice clarifying that it operates as one unified body with its headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and does not function under separate regional entities such as “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN.”
According to the notice, issued by CAN President His Eminence, Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh and General Secretary Apostle Prof. Samson A. Fatokun, the association’s operations are constitutionally structured through zonal branches, state branches (including FCT), local government branches, and district/ward units, as provided under Article 8(2)(1)(A-D) of the 2021 Constitution (as amended).
CAN emphasized that any group or individual claiming to represent “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN” is acting in violation of the constitution and warned that such usage could attract legal action.
The notice reiterated CAN’s motto, “That They May Be One” (John 17:21), and urged the public to deal only with constitutionally recognised CAN branches.
It was signed by key bloc heads, including leaders of the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN/PFN), and ECWA/TEKAN.
CAN called for strict adherence to its constitution to protect its integrity and safeguard public trust.
