Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Wednesday said he would resign if the ongoing Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road project fails a quality test or is found to be substandard.

Umahi made the pledge during his budget defence before a joint session of the National Assembly, saying he was ready for independent testing of the project.

His comments followed concerns by lawmakers over the award of a section of the road to a company they described as relatively unknown.

Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, questioned why the contract was removed from an established construction firm and reassigned to another company not widely known for road construction.

In response, Umahi dismissed the doubts, insisting the focus should be on performance and quality, not public perception.

“I am satisfied with the quality of work on the Abuja-Kaduna stretch, and I challenge you to an inspection. Bring the best of your concrete testers. If you test it and it fails, I will throw in the towel,” he said.
