Tension erupted Thursday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as security agents allegedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai on his return from Cairo, Egypt.
According to his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, El‑Rufai refused to accompany the operatives without a formal invitation, while his passport was reportedly seized from an aide.
El‑Rufai, a prominent opposition figure, has expressed concerns over what he calls politically motivated efforts to stop him following months abroad. Security authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
