Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to construct the Nyihemba-Anwase-Abande road to ease movement and strengthen security patrol and rapid response in affected communities of Kwande Local Government Area.
The governor made the pledge on Tuesday during a visit to Turan in Kwande to assess the recent attacks in Anwase and Abande communities.
Alia also promised to restore power supply in Anwase, provide water in both Nyihemba and Anwase, and deploy additional motorbikes to enhance surveillance in the area.
Assuring residents that they were not alone, the governor said the protection of lives and dignity remained his administration’s top priority.
He further disclosed plans to engage network providers to install a booster in the area to improve communication and ensure quick reporting during emergencies.
Condemning the attacks as unprovoked, Alia said his government would intensify collaboration with security agencies and provide necessary logistics to personnel working to restore peace.
He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been briefed on the situation and had directed reinforcement to the affected areas.
During the visit, the governor stopped at Nyihemba where he met traditional rulers of Kwande Local Government led by the Tor Kwande, HRH Ambrose Pine Iortyer.
He later proceeded to Tomataan and Anwase where he addressed residents, many of whom were directly affected by the attacks, before concluding the visit at Jato-Aka where he reiterated plans to restore electricity in Turan through the provision of a transformer.
