The Edo State House of Assembly suspended its first sitting of 2026 on Tuesday after bullets and gunshot holes were discovered on the roof of the Assembly complex in Benin City.
The discovery prompted lawmakers to halt proceedings and summon security operatives.
The Edo State Police Command was called in to investigate, and officers were deployed to inspect the premises.
Majority Leader Jonathan Ebamewu confirmed the suspension, saying the sitting would resume only after a full security report.
He assured that “everything is calm in the House” and that legislative duties would continue once the investigation is complete.
Police officers were seen conducting a thorough search of the Assembly complex as part of ongoing inquiries.
