Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has voiced support for protests against the Senate’s rejection of real-time electronic transmission of election results, saying most manipulation occurs at collation centres.

Speaking to Trust Television, el-Rufai said he would have joined Monday’s protest led by 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, if he had been in the country.

“That is where the real rigging takes place,” he said, referring to collation centres.

He insisted that direct transmission of results from polling units is the only effective way to prevent election-day manipulation.

El-Rufai also accused the ruling party and the Federal Government of opposing real-time transmission for political reasons, suggesting their resistance is aimed at preserving post-election result alteration.

On the 2027 elections, he revealed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has begun mobilising supporters, drafting its manifesto, and establishing internal democratic structures to ensure fairness in candidate selection, with no forced consensus or zoning restrictions.
