Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Saturday conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the government and people of Kwara State over the Feb. 3 killings in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area.
During a condolence visit, Shettima described the attack as tragic, noting that the victims were peaceful residents engaged in legitimate livelihoods.
He said the Federal Government was taking steps to restore calm and prevent a recurrence.
The Vice-President disclosed that a Nigerian Army battalion had been deployed to the area to strengthen security.
He also said Tinubu directed the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to work with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency to deliver relief materials to affected families.
“Our prayers are with you, and our empathy is with the affected families and communities,” Shettima said.
He added that the affected communities were known for peaceful and tolerant religious traditions, stressing that the violence was alien to their culture.
In his response, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq thanked the President and Vice-President for what he described as a swift federal intervention.
He said security reinforcements had been deployed, while NEMA officials were already on ground to assess humanitarian needs.
The governor urged Nigerians to continue supporting national efforts to tackle insecurity.
