At least 75 residents were killed and several homes razed when suspected terrorists attacked Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening.

The attack, which reportedly started around 6 p.m., was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Command. The police spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, said security personnel had been deployed to the affected areas, adding that the exact casualty figure was still being verified, alongside reports of missing persons.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Chief Press Secretary, Rauf Ajakaye, said the victims were moderate Muslims allegedly targeted for “refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine.”

AbdulRazaq visited Kaiama on Wednesday with security chiefs and cabinet members to assess the situation and commiserate with the communities.

He said President Bola Tinubu had approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to launch counter offensives in the area under an operation codenamed “Operation Savannah Shield.”

The governor condemned the attack as a cowardly assault on innocent residents and pledged stronger security action to prevent further violence.
