The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its national convention in Abuja to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) and other party organs.
The decision was taken at the faction’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja.
A communiqué issued after the meeting said the NEC also approved a timetable for nationwide congresses, with ward and local government congresses slated for February and state congresses in March.
Signed by the factional Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the communiqué said the convention would usher in an elected national leadership.
It also approved the extension of the tenure of the national, state and zonal caretaker committees pending the conduct of congresses.
The NEC directed the Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and begin preparations to ensure a credible and inclusive convention.
It reaffirmed the Mohammed-led Caretaker Committee as the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the convention.
The move follows a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan which nullified the PDP convention held in November 2025 and barred officials elected at the exercise from parading themselves as party leaders.
At a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting, factional BoT Chairman Mao Ohuabunwa urged party leaders to prioritise unity and collective interest, while Mohammed thanked the BoT and Wike for their support, pledging adherence to court rulings ahead of the convention.
