The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has begun the accreditation process for the selection of five new Federal Permanent Secretaries, following approval by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement on Tuesday, the OHCSF said the exercise aims to fill existing and anticipated vacancies, with candidates drawn from Adamawa, Bayelsa, Enugu, Kano and Ogun states, in line with the federal character principle.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack, described the exercise as crucial to strengthening leadership in the Federal Civil Service, urging the committee to ensure fairness, transparency and merit.

The Chairman of the Accreditation Committee, Mr Olumuyiwa Abel Enitan, also stressed strict adherence to due process, warning that lapses could undermine the credibility of the selection.

The OHCSF noted that appointments are governed by the Public Service Rules 2021, which provide that Permanent Secretaries are selected from serving Directors, subject to presidential approval, with a four-year renewable tenure of up to eight years.
