Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election as a leading candidate, rejecting any supporting role.

Obi made the announcement while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council elections. He stressed he will not accept a vice-presidential slot or secondary position in any political arrangement.

“I will contest the 2027 election as a presidential candidate,” he said, citing his commitment to provide Nigerians with credible leadership amid economic and security challenges.

Since leaving the Labour Party for the ADC, Obi has been consulting political stakeholders nationwide, signaling a potential realignment within the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
