Akpabio Urges NASC to Uphold Federal Character

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), to uphold the principle of federal character in its activities, particularly in staff welfare, promotion and recruitment.

Akpabio gave the charge while receiving the chairman and members of the Sixth NASC on a courtesy visit, congratulating them on their appointment and expressing confidence in their capacity to deliver.

He stressed the need for inclusiveness, national balance and transparency in the commission’s operations, noting that its decisions should reflect fairness and unity.

Earlier, NASC Chairman, Dr Saviour Enyiekere, thanked the National Assembly leadership for the confidence reposed in the commission and pledged to build on past achievements.

He also disclosed proposals for the establishment of a Council of former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly and the revival of National Assembly Legislative Quarters.
