A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has described the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a criminal organisation, blaming it for years of bloodshed and insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East.

In a statement on Friday, Igbokwe alleged that IPOB-linked violence has led to the deaths of thousands, devastated communities and disrupted livelihoods across the region. He said sit-at-home orders and attacks on civilians and security personnel have crippled economic activities and deepened hardship.

He accused the group’s leadership of misleading youths and pushing them into violence, arguing that such actions contradict claims of acting in the interest of the Igbo people.

IPOB, which has been proscribed by the Federal Government, has repeatedly denied involvement in violent attacks, attributing them to criminal elements unaffiliated with the group.
