The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued two suspected members of a “one chance” robbery gang from an attempted mob attack in Utako, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., when the Utako Police Division received a distress call that an angry crowd had apprehended and was assaulting two suspected criminals.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully rescued the suspects, restoring calm to the area.
The suspects, identified as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere, are alleged members of a four-man gang involved in “one chance” robberies across the FCT. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects reportedly operate from Uke in Nasarawa State.

Police said two other alleged gang members, identified only as Mary and Aisha, escaped during the commotion. Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The FCT Police Command condemned acts of mob justice, warning that such actions could lead to the injury or death of innocent persons and compromise investigations. Residents were urged to report suspicious activities to the police rather than take the law into their own hands.
