Ahmed Isah, popularly known as the Ordinary President and host of the Brekete Family programme on Human Rights Radio, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, to adopt dialogue and meaningful negotiations to resolve the ongoing strike by FCT workers.
Isah made the appeal amid rising tensions between the Federal Capital Territory Administration and workers under the Joint Union Action Committee, whose industrial action began on January 19, 2026, over unresolved welfare issues, including wages, promotions and benefits.
The strike has disrupted government services in parts of Abuja.
In response, Wike obtained a National Industrial Court injunction ordering workers to suspend the strike and return to work, warning of disciplinary measures against defaulters. The move has attracted mixed reactions from labour leaders and rights groups.
While some workers have complied with the court order and resumed duties, others have continued to resist, appealing the ruling and signalling a possible continuation of the strike pending further negotiations.
Commenting on the situation, Isah stressed the need to respect workers’ rights and urged both parties to engage constructively to avoid further disruption of public services and hardship for residents of the FCT.
The FCT Administration, however, maintains that it remains open to dialogue and claims to have made progress on several demands, while noting that some requests are beyond legal or financial limits.
